Company

Founded in 1996, Finerge is the largest wind energy producer in Portugal and one of the most significant renewable energy producers on the Iberian Peninsula.

Operating across Portugal and Spain, the company has spent more than 25 years developing, constructing and acquiring wind and solar projects to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy.

Challenge

Operating across five turbine OEM platforms in Iberia, Finerge faced increasing complexity in managing condition monitoring at fleet level.

The portfolio included multiple CMS providers with varying data formats and system architectures, and some turbines had no existing condition-monitoring system in place. This created visibility gaps and made it more difficult to standardise fault detection, prioritise repairs, and maintain consistency in O&M planning across the fleet.

To advance its predictive maintenance strategy, Finerge required a scalable solution that could integrate with its existing CMS infrastructure while addressing monitoring gaps and delivering a unified, reliable view of turbine health across all assets.

Solution

Following a successful predictive maintenance deployment in Portugal, Finerge expanded its partnership with ONYX Insight to standardise condition monitoring across its Iberian operations.

To centralise monitoring across five turbine OEM platforms, Finerge deployed a combined ecoCMS and fleetMONITOR strategy.

ecoCMS was installed to complement existing monitoring systems and close visibility gaps across the fleet, providing high-quality, actionable drivetrain sensing and ensuring consistent coverage across all assets.

fleetMONITOR was implemented as the central fleet monitoring and decision-support platform, integrating seamlessly with existing CMS hardware and ingesting data from more than 15 CMS solutions. The platform unifies vibration, SCADA, oil, maintenance and other operational data into a single interface, giving operators a comprehensive, real-time view of turbine health across the entire fleet.

Built on more than a decade of real-world turbine failures, drawing on insights from over 120 turbine platforms and optimised by more than 50,000 failure events, fleetMONITOR delivers accurate early-stage fault detection across mixed OEM environments. Integrated case management tools streamline fault tracking, diagnosis and resolution within a single workflow.

By combining retrofit sensing with advanced predictive capabilities, Finerge established a unified monitoring environment across five turbine OEM platforms, strengthening reliability and improving maintenance planning across Iberia.

Joaquim Silva, Asset Manager, Finerge: “When embarking upon this project, naturally, we looked no further than ONYX Insight, whose technology integrates seamlessly with our turbines and gives us powerful insights into the components with which they are comprised. Giving us an in-depth understanding of our wind turbine’s asset health, ONYX Insight has empowered us to plan ahead with our O&M strategies, which will serve our fleets best in the years to come.”

“Not only does ONYX provide the latest and most effective technology in condition monitoring, but they also take a meticulous approach to the analysis of complex data and give actionable feedback which ensures our fleets are running at full capacity, and safeguards our operations into the future.”

Benefits

  • With ecoCMS and fleetMONITOR fully operational across its Iberian portfolio, Finerge has extended a proven predictive maintenance strategy from Portugal into Spain under a single, centralised monitoring framework.
  • The unified platform provides a consistent source of truth for turbine health across territories, OEMs and CMS providers. By consolidating multiple data streams into one environment, Finerge can manage its mixed fleet with greater consistency and clarity.
  • The system supports faster, more precise fault detection and diagnosis, including the ability to anticipate major component failures up to 24 months in advance. This enables O&M teams to prioritise repairs more effectively, reduce unplanned downtime and strengthen long-term maintenance planning.
  • Through earlier visibility and streamlined fault management, Finerge is improving turbine reliability, minimising operational disruption and supporting stronger energy yield across its Iberian operations.

“Following our successful collaboration in Portugal, we’re pleased to support Finerge as they expand into Spain. By combining ecoCMS with fleetMONITOR, they gain earlier visibility of major component failures up to 24 months in advance, supporting better repair prioritisation, reduced downtime and stronger energy yield.
